Content:
The Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority (SASSETA) is a South African statutory body established under the Skills Development Act No. 97 of 1998, mandated to develop and implement skills development strategies for the safety and security sector. SASSETA exists to close skills gaps, promote employability, and support sustainable economic growth by connecting learners with accredited training, workplace experience, and recognised qualifications.
We support learners, employers, training providers, and government partners throughout South Africa by:
-
Designing and implementing sector skills plans aligned to labour market needs;
-
Overseeing quality‐assured programmes, including learnerships, skills programmes, internships and bursaries;
-
Accrediting and monitoring training providers to ensure high-quality education and training experiences;
-
Promoting workplace learning and facilitating industry-relevant qualifications recognised nationally.
Our Vision
An educated, skilled and capable safety and security workforce for South Africa and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Our Mission
To transform and professionalise the safety and security sector through partnerships that deliver quality education, accreditation, and training outcomes.
Why SASSETA Matters
South Africa continues to face high unemployment and critical skills shortages in industries such as policing, private security, corrections, justice services, and community safety. SASSETA addresses these challenges by delivering practical, accredited learning pathways that reflect the real needs of employers and learners.
We publish clear, evidence-based educational content, training resources, and career guidance tailored for students, job seekers, employers and sector professionals.
